Welcome to the symposium ”Security and preparedness in the changing north – research perspectives"

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and The Norwegian Scientific Academy for Polar Research organise a two-day symposium on climate change in the Artic. The symposium addresses issues raised in IPCC report ”The Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate", in particular environmental changes and effects relevant to Scandinavia. The symposium has a research perspective and focuses on five different themes:

 

  • Access to infrastructure and data for Arctic research

  • Forecasting the changing ice, ocean and weather conditions

  • Conditions for livelihoods, health, and ecosystems

  • Impacts of climate change - effects and actions

  • Geopolitics (Governance), security and defense
