SBDI Days 2024: Towards Data-driven Ecology

SBDI Days 2024: Towards Data-driven Ecology

January 24-25, 2024 at the Swedish Museum of Natural History, Stockholm

Research in ecology has not yet reached the big data revolution, while the forthcoming ‘data deluge’ creates many challenges for scientists in fields of biodiversity, ecology, conservation biology and systematics.

With this two-day event we invite the Swedish biodiversity research community to come together and pave the way for data-driven research in ecology. The event will offer keynotes, talks, demos, and a poster session. It’s for everyone who wants to make use of the big data wave that is currently building up!

Symposium topics include

·         Perils and promises in big data research - examples from macroecology

·         Machine-learning and artificial intelligence applications in conservation and management of ecosystems

·         Perspectives on digital twins for ecosystems and ecological modelling

·         Scaling up DNA-based ecology research

Keynote speakers include Alexandre Antonelli (Royal Botanic Gardens Kew), Rob James Boyd (UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology), Tobias Andermann (Uppsala University), Eva Lindberg (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences), and Monika Quinones Winder (Stockholm University).
