The Linnaeus Microbial Observatory (LMO) is now integrated into the EMBRC’s long-term omics marine biodiversity study, EMO BON, which “aims to enhance the European contribution to global genomic observation efforts.”
EMO BON’s standardized protocol is done at 16 participating sites from Norway to the Red Sea in Israel. With Sweden now an EMBRC member, the LMO will be a 17th site in this network, with sample collection of the water column beginning this December. Sampling will be done at the LMO every second month, with extraction and sequencing performed at a centralized location for all EMO BON participants. Data from all sampling sites will be open access.
